Melendez, bodyguard face charges

Quezon City Councilor Aiko Melendez and her police bodyguard are now facing physical injury charges before the Makati Police Department (MPD) for their involvement in a bar room brawl.

Melendez and a certain PO3 Jun Rivera Alvarez are accused of attacking a group of three after both camps had some drinks in a bar.

Initial reports said the incident happened at around 3 a.m. outside the Novo Bar located at Greenbelt 2.

The two allegedly figured in an argument with the group of Alana Montelibano, Ronald Serrano, and Happy Rivera after someone reportedly touched Melendez maliciously.

Both women, in their complaint, said it was Melendez who attacked them while their male companion was punched by her bodyguard.

Police have yet to determine what caused the brawl since Rivera had said that Melendez was a former girlfriend of her brother Wowie.

Melendez’s counsel, lawyer Joseph Capistrano, appeared before the MPD but refused to comment on the case.

The actress-turned-public servant is up against some powerful people since Montelibano is allegedly with the Lopez clan of ABS-CBN while Rivera is a daughter of a ranking executive of Flying-V.  — Michael Punongbayan
