QC government set to take over traffic management
October 1, 2005 | 12:00am
The Quezon City government, in a bid to ease traffic and minimize road accidents in various parts of the city, will officially take over on Monday traffic management functions from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), a top city official said yesterday.
Manuel Sabalza, chief of the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), said the assumption of duties is in compliance with the New Quezon City Traffic Management Code, which was approved last year by Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr.
"All systems go for the new code on Monday," Sabalza told The STAR.
He said 397 local traffic enforcers, known as the " QC yellow boys," have completed traffic management training and will be deployed to key areas in the city. Some 1,000 traffic deputies will back them up.
As a prelude to the transfer of duties, Belmonte led yesterday the blessing of the new traffic redemption center, which will be manned by the city treasurers office.
Belmonte earlier ordered the full implementation of the new traffic management code to ease traffic and minimize road accidents. Perseus Echeminada
