Las Piñas government eyes additional police precincts

To enhance police visibility and better protect residents, the Las Piñas City government will put up additional precincts.

Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar recently met with the city’s police enforcers to assess the peace and order situation in the city. She explained that a police precinct in every barangay would ensure quick response and deter crime.

"An intensified peace and order campaign can be best achieved when police are highly visible," she said.

City police chief Superintendent Josephus Angan said 11 barangays already have their own police precincts while additional precincts will soon be constructed in the remaining nine barangays.

"We recognize the great help a police precinct does in a particular area," Angan said.

In the meeting with the mayor, he assured the mayor of an intensified law enforcement program as well as high police visibility, particularly in the business and school districts.

The police also vowed to closely coordinate with barangay officials, saying that the Barangay Volunteer Brigade was in place in each barangay.

The volunteers will closely coordinate crime prevention measures with police.

"The brigade is tasked to report the existence of illegal drugs, tupada, video karera games and other forms of vices in the city," he added.

Aguilar has repeatedly stressed that gambling and other forms of vice breed crime and result to a breakdown of peace and order.

Crime prevention measures are discussed with the residents during the regular Ugnayan sa Barangay conducted by the city government and the police.
