Las Piñas volunteers in anti-crime drive

-
Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar has ordered an intensified crime prevention campaign by mobilizing barangay civilian volunteers to work with police in making Las Piñas the safest and most peaceful city in Metro Manila.

In a directive to city police Chief Superintendent Josephus Angan, the mayor said she wants all 20 barangays to organize their own Barangay Volunteer Brigade to closely work with police in crime monitoring and prevention.

The volunteer groups, composed of 400 members, will be mobilized for intelligence work and information gathering on suspicious persons or illegal activities in the community.

"We cannot compromise the safety of our residents, and this is the reason why we are soliciting the support of everyone to get involved in crime prevention measures," Aguilar explained.

Among the tasks of the brigade is to report the existence of illegal drugs, illegal cockfights and video karera machines.

The order came even after as a report by Angan revealed that the crime volume has gone down in the first seven months of the year compared to the same period last year.

Crime solution efficiency has improved to 92.93 percent.

Aguilar agreed with Angan that a good record of crime prevention and solution should not make them complacent in the performance of their duties.

The mayor commended the police chief for presenting the true and factual crime picture in his regular peace and order situation report, which serves as the basis for drawing efficient crime solution measures.

Las Piñas is consistently one of the most peaceful cities in Metro Manila for its low crime rate and crime-solution efficiency each year.

Residents have also advised to be vigilant and support their respective barangay officials and police enforcers.

They are informed of crime prevention measures during the regular barangay consultation meetings dubbed "Ugnayan sa Barangay," conducted by the city government and the police.
