Tiangco commends 2 modern day heroes

- Jerry Botial -
Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco commended yesterday two policemen responsible for the arrest of a robbery suspect who stabbed to death a fish trader at the Navotas Fishport Complex last Tuesday and turned over untouched P1.2 million in cash and checks.

Cited for a job well done were PO2 Guianan Ibrahim and PO1 Jose Calibuso, both of the Navotas police force.

"I commend the Navotas police, particularly officers Ibrahim and Calibuso, for the immediate arrest of the suspect and the return of the victim’s money to his family," the mayor said. "To all criminals, this is a warning to you. Rest assured that we will go hard against you."

The officers quickly responded to a call by a tipster informing them of a robbery in progress at the fishport that led to the arrest of suspect Jojo Gregorio, who was with two others initially identified as John-John Tabio and one "Anton."

Trader Arnel Camua succumbed to stab wounds in the neck and the back after putting up a fight when the suspects declared a holdup as the former boarded his owner-type jeep last Tuesday morning on his way to the bank.

Ibrahim and Calibuso gave chase to Gregorio, who fled but was later collared after a brief chase at Market 3 of the fishport.

The officers recovered and eventually returned the victim’s belt bag that contained P539,450 in cash and P649,562 in checks.

The Navotas Police Station has the distinction of being the NCR’s Best Municipal Police Station in 2001 and 2002.

The local police, the mayor said, continues to abide and pursue Navotas’ peace and order program through its slogan "Navotas Pulis, Aksyon Mabilis."
