Navotas fish trader stabbed dead

-
A 42-year-old fish trader on his way to the bank to deposit his earnings was stabbed dead in a robbery at the Navotas fish port complex yesterday.

Police later arrested one of the suspects and recovered P1.2 million in cash and checks that were taken from Arnel Camua, owner of the Vicky Consignacion at Market 3 of the fish port.

Navotas police chief Superintendent Genesis Tolejano identified the suspect as Jojo Gregorio, 28. Recovered was P539,450 in cash and several checks.

At around 8:30 a.m., Camua was about to get on his owner type jeep parked near his stall when three men armed with knives approached him.

They grabbed Camua’s black belt bag containing the cash and checks.

The trader tried to put up a fight and was stabbed in the neck and back. He died on the way to the Tondo General Hospital.

The quick response of PO2 Guianan Ibrahim and PO1 Jose Calibuso of Police Beat Patrol No. 2 resulted in the immediate apprehension of the fleeing Gregorio. Also recovered at the scene were a hunting knife and a kitchen knife used by the suspects.

His two companions, identified as John John Tabio and one alias Anton, are now being sought by police. – Jerry Botial, Pete Laude, Cecille Suerte Felipe
