11 hurt in Valenzuela road mishap

- Pete Laude -
A driver of a wayward car and a jeepney passenger were seriously hurt while nine others suffered minor injuries following a vehicular accident in Valenzuela City shortly after midnight yesterday.

Police said Dick Perez Jr., 18, driver of a black Mitsubishi Lancer (UNA-411) and a resident of Valenzuela City, suffered head and body injuries while Francisco Magno, 53, a resident of Barangay Karuhatan, also in Valenzuela, lost his right leg.

Both are confined at the Fatima Hospital.

SPO1 Benjamin Bautista, Valenzuela police traffic division investigator, said the incident took place along McArthur Highway in Barangay Marulas right in front of the Fatima Hospital at around 12:05 a.m.

A passenger jeepney (PMW-216), driven by Jerico Columna, stopped in front of the hospital to drop off passengers. Magno was the first to alight.

As he stepped down from the back of the jeepney, a speeding Mitsubishi Lancer hit him. His right leg was crushed and was later amputated.

The impact caused the car to spin and slam into a parked Isuzu Elf truck (TCM-447).

The jeepney, on the other hand, crashed into a Ford Expedition that was also parked. Six jeepney passengers identified as Alma Paguinto, Jessie Mancada, Noel Sanchez, couple Arturo and Myrna Brun, and Maria Calveria were slightly hurt.

The Lancer’s two passengers, identified as Simon Nacional and Morlie Ermo, were also injured.

All the victims were treated at the Fatima Hospital.

Police are set to file charges of reckless imprudence resulting to physical injuries and damage to property against Perez.
