2 bodies fished out from Marikina River

-
The bodies of a newborn baby boy and a 12-year-old student were fished out yesterday from the Marikina River in Marikina City.

Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, Marikina City police chief, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine whether there was foul play in the death of the boy and Arjun Lomibao, a Grade 6 pupil.

Gaerlan said barangay watchman Rodolfo Magno found the baby boy floating on the river in Barangay Olandez in Marikina City at about 9 a.m.

The baby was wrapped in a piece of cloth.

Police said the victim had a hole in the back of his head and could have been dead for two days.

Gaerlan also wanted to know whether the child’s mother intentionally dumped the baby into the river.

An hour later, the body of Lomibao, a resident of Gem Subdivision in Barangay Parang, was discovered along a riverbank in Barangay Concepcion Uno.

Gaerlan said Lomibao went swimming in the river with five friends at 2:30 p.m. last Sunday.

Witnesses told police that Lomibao was swept by strong currents.

His friends reported the incident to his parents, who rushed to the area with their neighbors to conduct a search, but failed to find the victim.

Residents of the area discovered Lomibao’s body at 9:30 a.m. yesterday. Non Alquitran
