Mayor’s wife initiates beautifying Parañaque City

Since moms do a better job at making and keeping things beautiful, Mayor Jun Bernabe’s better half is now doing her share in beautifying Parañaque City.

Two of the city’s main thoroughfares, Dr. Arcadio Santos Avenue formerly Sucat Road and Ninoy Aquino Avenue, are now undergoing a major facelift.

Bernabe’s wife Maria Fe "Girlie" Bernabe, has launched a citywide beautification campaign to help transform Parañaque into a cleaner, greeners, and more beautiful locality using a woman’s natural ability of bringing out the best out of anything she can get her magical hands on.

"This is actually a city government initiative with the assistance and cooperation of the private sector," said Mrs. Bernabe who is the overall chairman of the beautification team handling the project.

According to her, businessman Ernie Sanchez has donated the carbide materials for the walls of where giant plant boxes are placed in order to serve as center islands of Santos Avenue. She said she has mobilized the city’s so-called Red Brigade, a workforce composed of street sweepers, masons, gardeners and painters, including some 25 parolees currently rendering community service. She added some of them have been assigned to sweep the accumulated litters off the streets on a daily basis while others have been tasked to pull out weeds and replace them with ornamental plants while also trimming excess branches.

"Another group is tasked to scrape the grime and dirt and repair the damaged parts of the center island boxes," she told The Star in an interview.

"For the finishing touches, we have another crew of painters tasked to whitewash the walls as well as the street gutters," she said. – Michael Punongbayan
