Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane ordered yesterday the immediate repair of all Metro Manila roads damaged by the recent heavy rains.
"Utilize all available resources such as equipment, asphalt materials and manpower to undertake restoration works," Ebdane told district engineers of DPWH-National Capital Region.
Reports from the DPWH-NCR office disclosed that heavy rains caused by typhoons "Gorio" and "Huaning" damaged 109 out of 468 inventoried national roads in Metro Manila.
This translates to almost 13,000 square meters of damaged pavements and a total restoration cost of about P4 million.
DPWH-NCR director Robert Lala said the DPWH emergency repair crew was immediately deployed after the weather condition improved which resulted in 4,610 square meters of roads being cleared of potholes.
Top officials of the DPWH were instructed by Ebdane to supervise pothole operations in the eight engineering districts of the NCR.
DPWH Undersecretary Manuel Bonoan, who conducted monitoring inspection at ongoing pothole operation activities along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue with Undersecretary Salvador Pleyto and Assistant Secretary Rafael Yabut, said that with the simultaneous deployment of maintenance crews and equipment throughout Metro Manila, covering of road ruts with asphalt will be completed by the end of August.
Bonoan said the relatively favorable weather condition would enable the DPWH to achieve the target date and restore normal vehicular speed on Metro Manilas national roads.
