Body of FX driver recovered in Pasig

-
After four days, the body of a man, whose vehicle was swept away by a strong current from a bridge in Marikina City, was fished out of the Pasig River in Pasig City last Tuesday night.

The decomposing body of Elpidio de Vera, 56, a resident of Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City, was found at 7:30 p.m. in Barangay Pineda.

Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, Marikina City police chief, said De Vera was identified by his wife through a tattoo on his left arm.

De Vera was driving a Toyota Tamaraw FX service vehicle last Saturday in Marikina City and tried to cross the overflowing Tumana bridge when it was swept away by a strong current.

The vehicle fell into the river.

Gaerlan said workers from Rescue 161 of the Marikina local government tried but failed to rescue De Vera, but were hampered by the strong current and the heavy downpour.

The next day, the FX was recovered 400 meters from where it fell into the river. — Non Alquitran
