Led by a female doctor, the Northern Police District medical services division has won the Metro Manila medical skills competition.
Representing the Philippine National Police-National Capital Region, the NPD bested 10 other participating teams from different government-retained hospitals, non-government organizations, the military and several rescue organizations.
Team leader Chief Inspector Ophelia Ramos-Mangrobang, M.D., said the competition held at the Aguilar Sports Center in Las Piñas City last week was aimed at evaluating the readiness and physical fitness of medical workers and rescue volunteers.
Organized by the Department of Healths Center for Health Development Metro Manila, headed by Dr. Marlyn Go, the competition was also intended to hasten cooperation and camaraderie among health workers.
The one-day event featured a first aid challenge and bloodletting activity, spearheaded by the Philippine National Red Cross.
The NPD teamed up with the Jose Reyes Hospital team led by Dr. Enrico de Jesus, the Fabella Hospital team headed by Dr. Romeo Bituin and Dr. Antonette Pacapac, and the San Lazaro Hospital team led by Dr. Miguel Lao.
"It is really important to maintain a good relationship among medical workers and practitioners, the rescue workers as well, for they are our best partners, especially during emergencies," Mangrobang said.
At least 17 other local government units, including Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela in the northern part of Metro Manila joined the activity. Pete Laude
