Cop kills robbery suspect in Marikina

-
A policeman shot dead a robbery suspect who tried to grab his firearm while he was handcuffing another suspect in Marikina City the other night.

Don Tabios, of Dagat-Dagatan, Malabon, sustained two gunshot wounds in the chest. He died while being rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Hospital.

His cohort, Jessie Iglore, of Sampaloc, Manila, is currently detained at the Marikina City detention center.

Marikina City police chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan said Tabios and Iglore boarded an FX taxi bound for Cubao in Cogeo, Antipolo City at 4 p.m. last Thursday.

Upon reaching the stretch of Marcos Highway in Barangay Barangka, Tabios and Iglore pulled out a handgun and a knife and announced a heist. They then divested passengers of their cash, cell phones and personal belongings.

However, a bystander noticed the commotion inside the vehicle. He reported the robbery to a mobile unit, led by PO2 Nelson Arribay.

The patrol car gave chase and arrested Tabios and Iglore, Gaerlan said in his report to the Eastern Police District (EPD) headquarters.

Police recovered from the suspects a gun and knife as well as the items taken from the FX passengers.

The victims positively identified Tabios and Iglore as the robbers.

While Arribay was putting the cuffs on Iglore, Tabios tried to grab the officer’s service firearm, resulting in a scuffle.

Arribay managed to overpower Tabios and shot him twice.

Barangay Chairman Frankie Ayuson said the suspects were behind a rash of robbery incidents along Marcos Highway. Non Alquitran
