QC mayor approves garbage ordinance

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has approved an ordinance requiring residents and establishments to clean their own surroundings, including canals and roads as part of the clean and green program of the city government.
The ordinance, introduced by Councilors Joseph Juico, Resty Malangen, Francisco Calalay, directs residents to segregate and keep their garbage inside their compound until collected by garbage trucks for disposal.
The new ordinance imposes a fine of P5,000 for violators. Perseus Echeminada
