QC gov’t boosts ties with informal sector

-
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte has created a special team that will help strengthen the partnership between the city government and various informal sector groups in the city.

In an executive order, Belmonte created a Project Management Team (PMT) citing the need to create a body for the full implementation of the Department of Labor and Employment’s Capacity for Local Institutions to Promote and Protect the Informal Sector Program, or CLIPPS.

The creation of the team came after the United Nations selected Quezon City as one of the recipients and partners in the pilot implementation of the United Nations’ CLIPPS-initiated program for its exemplary performance to strengthen the informal sector.

The institutionalization of the informal sector desk under the framework of the city’s Industrial Relations Office and Public Service Office served as basis for the selection.

Under the mayor’s executive order, the newly organized project management team shall provide a system for the integration, coordination of the project implementation and monitoring activities as well as give assessments as to whether the projects are supportive to the city’s development plan.

The five-man team, which is headed by Industrial Relation Office chief Ignacio Santos Diaz has also been tasked to identify problems and issues that impede project implementation for remedial action at the project level and elevate unresolved issues and problems at the city mayor’s office.

Members of the team are Jerico Galvez (IRO/PESO), Henry Lagasca (City Planning Development Office), Alfredo Britaña (Task Force Sikap-Buhay), Thelma Santos (IRO/PESO), Djohanna Delia Ravelo (IRO/PESO), Glenda Dalag (IRO/PESO) and Gudelia Austero (IRO/PESO). — Perseus Echeminada
