Prints pin down rapist

-
Two sets of fingerprints gave away a jobless man, who allegedly raped and killed a student in Quezon City last Saturday.

Chief Superintendent Ernesto Belen, director of the Crime Laboratory of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said suspect Kim Ojano, 27, initially denied raping and killing Jaclyn Margarette Crespo, 25, a student.

Belen said the crime lab fingerprint examiner confirmed Ojano’s left index and middle fingerprints matched those lifted from the cabinet inside Crespo’s room.

Ojano owned up the rape-slay when confronted and told by Central Police District (CPD) investigators about the crime lab’s findings, he said.

Crespo’s body was discovered last Saturday inside her rented house on Bayabas street in Barangay Sta. Monica, Novaliches at about 7:30 p.m.

Ojano was arrested by CPD operatives after the victim’s neighbors said he was the last person seen in the area prior to the discovery of the body.

He initially denied killing Crespo. The suspect even cooperated fully in the investigation by submitting blood samples for crime lab examination.

Police are set to file robbery with homicide and rape charges against Ojano before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Ojano is currently detained at the CPD jail. – Non Alquitran
