Noli leads medical mission for poor

In response to the rising cost of medicine and medical services, Vice President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Chairman Noli de Castro led medical and dental missions in two housing relocation sites in Valenzuela City.

Aside from the medical and dental missions, De Castro also launched a circumcision mission in Kasarival and HARV relocation sites in Baranggay Bignay.

"During these hard times, medical missions can help our countrymen especially the poor to cope with the rising cost of medicines and medical services," De Castro said.

About 500 residents from the two relocation sites participated in the said missions where they were given free medicines, vitamins, consultation, check-up and dental services.

"Aside from providing the people with shelter, it is also necessary for the government to protect the health of its constituents. This is what these medical missions are all about," De Castro added.

Earlier, the Vice President promised to provide free health services for railway residents in Valenzuela the moment they are transferred to relocation sites.

Thursday’s medical mission in Valenzuela was the second time since the relocatees set foot in their new homes. The same medical mission was conducted by the HUDCC in cooperation with various key shelter agencies and the local government of Valenzuela two months ago.

Joining De Castro was National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Federico Laxa who gave the Vice President a tour around the two relocation sites for an update on the construction of the relocatees’ houses.

"Be assured that your government is working full time to facilitate faster delivery of basic services and provision of adequate facilities in your community such as electricity, water, health care. Sinisikap naming mabigyan kayo ng mas maigi at maayos na pamumuhay, " De Castro told the relocatees in Bignay.
