Philandering cop kills self

- Jerry Botial, Pete Laude -
A Manila policeman with alleged suicidal tendencies succeeded in his final attempt, shooting himself in the mouth using his own service firearm, after he was caught by his wife in the house of his alleged lover shortly after midnight yesterday in Caloocan City.

Dead on the spot was PO1 Jonathan Ramilo, 31, married, assigned at the District Intelligence and Investigation Division (DIID) of the Western Police District (WPD) and a resident of MB 18, Unit 311, PDS Village, PNP Housing, BCDA, Ususan, Taguig City.

Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) investigator Senior Inspector Domingo Alminana said Ramilo suffered a gunshot wound with the bullet from his own 9mm Beretta service pistol still imbedded in the mouth cavity.

Recovered from the scene was a cartridge, eight live bullets and a magazine for a 9mm pistol. The fatal weapon was taken to the SOCO lab for ballistic testing.

PO2 Alberto Eustaquio, on case, said the incident occurred at around 12:05 a.m. yesterday after Ramilo’s wife Lyndia, 27, who tailed her husband, confronted him at the house of Mary Jane Calixtro, 28, at 149 Rivera street, Barangay 160 in Baesa, Sta. Quiteria, Caloocan City.

Eustaquio said the victim allegedly pleaded to his wife not to make any trouble and asked her to go inside the house to talk things over. Calixtro allegedly went inside the house first using the front door while the Ramilos used the back door.

However, the aggrieved wife allegedly would not be mollified and started creating a scene. The cop then suddenly drew his pistol and, saying to his wife "O, tingnan mo ‘to," put the gun muzzle into his mouth and fired. Witnesses told investigators the couple grappled for gun possession before it went off.

It was gathered that the incident was not the first of its nature for the victim, who belonged to a family of policemen. Ramilo’s father is a retired police colonel and has two other sons in active police duty.

Alminana said the victim’s wife, Lyndia, was subjected to a paraffin test for gunpowder burns. Results will be known today, he said.
