Angry residents of a Marikina City neighborhood beat up three robbers minutes after they held up a passenger jeepney yesterday.
The suspects, Ronel de los Santos, 18; Joey Serrano, 25, and Jonie Llinga, 25, all of Sitaw street, Sitio Tumana, Barangay Concepcion Uno, were black and blue when turned over by barangay officials to responding policemen.
Senior Superintendent Felipe Rojas, Marikina City police chief said the trio yielded a caliber .38 revolver and fan knives.
Rojas said the suspects boarded a passenger jeepney (with license plate TWJ 219) bound for Cubao in Barangay Parang at about 1:20 a.m.
Upon reaching the dimly lighted Bonifacio Avenue in Barangay Tanong, the three suspects took out their weapons and announced the heist.
The trio then took turns in divesting passengers of their cell phones, cash and other belongings.
When the robbers got off the passenger jeepney, the victimized passengers shouted for help, attracting the attention of the residents and barangay tanods.
A group of men ran after the suspects and cornered them after a brief chase.
The outnumbered robbers yielded peacefully.
To teach them a lesson, the residents beat up the suspects before turning them over to the local police.
The suspects are currently detained at the Marikina City detention center, awaiting the filing of robbery charges before the city prosecutors office. Non Alquitran
