Sentro Kalinga rises in Taguig

-
The City of Taguig has built Sentro Kalinga, Mother and Child Center to intensify the local government’s efforts to curb malnutrition and propagate its health programs.

Taguig Board of Women chairman and city nutrition action officer, Kaye Tiñga said that as the city government implements health intervention programs such as Operation Timbang, supplementary feeding, food fortification and immunization among others, they realized that proper nourishment should not only be focused on children.

More importantly, expectant mothers should also be afforded the needed pre-natal and post-natal care for their baby’s proper nourishment.

"As a mother, I believe that proper child caring must start in the womb and it is sad to note that in many instances, malnutrition starts with pregnant women," Mrs. Tiñga said.

This is the very reason why Sentro Kalinga was built as a center where both mother and child can avail of the city’s free health programs and services particularly on nutrition and pre-natal care.

Sentro Kalinga also houses a day-care center, the Nutrition Office. Soon, an office where streetchildren may be given proper guidance and a school for special children will also be added to the center.
