Records from the citys Public Employment Service Office (PESO) showed that last year, out of 15,881 job seekers, 8,926 qualified for employment in various establishments in the city and in nearby cities and municipalities.
Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar expressed delight over this relatively high percentage of employment, saying that it was a manifestation of the citys continuous growth and the countrys improving economy.
Aguilar said those who failed to qualify for the jobs were encouraged to enroll in vocational and technical courses for free at the Las Piñas Manpower Training Center to equip them with necessary skills of gainful employment.
SM Group of Companies, Jollibee, Saniware Manufacturing Corp., Worksavers Personnel Services, Aedan Associates Inc., Manpower Assistance Integrated Network Inc., Promo Results Plus Inc., People 4 People and Pro Temps were the companies that participated in the "Trabaho para sa Mamamayan" program of the city government of Las Piñas.
The Las Piñas City Public Employment Service Office also holds a job fair twice a month to help more residents get jobs.
Every year during school break more than 100 students are hired for a summer job under the Special Program for Employment of Student (SPES).
Aguilar has strengthened her administrations livelihood training program in the communities to provide the residents an opportunity to earn a decent living and to reduce the incidence of poverty in the city.
