Homeowners to open QC subdivision gates

-
Subdivisions in Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City, responding to the appeal of Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. to help the city government ease traffic along Commonwealth and other major highways, have agreed to open their gates to selected types of vehicles from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Architect Pedro Rodriguez, chief of the city’s Subdivision Administration Office, said that after series of meetings with homeowners from subdivisions in Barangay Holy Spirit, they have come up with a new routing plan that will accommodate vehicles coming from North Fairview to pass through the area to Marcos Highway and Commonwealth Avenue.

"Homeowners have agreed to open their gates for a regulated entry of vehicles in their areas," Rodriguez told the STAR.

He said the new traffic route, to be implemented soon, would allow vehicles from Republic Avenue in North Fairview to pass Mapayapa, I to III then to BF Homes, Ramax and Hubbard Subdivisions to exit to Commonwealth Avenue.

Under the new traffic scheme, signboards informing motorists of the availability of the subdivision road networks will be posted at strategic areas to guide them.

Heavy trucks PUJ and PUBs are not allowed to use the new routes.

Rodriguez said that while the law prohibits the closing of subdivision streets, the mayor still initiated a dialogue with residents to get their cooperation in allowing selected vehicles to pass their areas.

"Mayor Belmonte always want a consultative dialogue with residents," he said.

Once the new traffic route is implemented, the city government will provide traffic enforcers and security officers to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the area. The city government will also takeover the maintenance of the road networks.

Rodriguez said the target of the city government is to open road networks in 13 more subdivisions in Fairview to ease traffic during the rush hours. – Perseus Echeminada
