Bryan Garcia, 36, of Kamuning, Quezon City and his partner Christine Salud, 34, survived the crash and are being treated at the Medical City hospital for stab wounds and a broken hip, respectively.
Senior Inspector Alfredo Paneda, head of the Eastern Police District criminal investigation unit, said Garcia was behind the wheel of his blue Nissan Sentra (TCN 244) when Salud revealed her plan to break up with him. Salud, according to Paneda, was four months pregnant with Garcias child.
Police said Garcia tried to make her partner change her mind, but Salud insisted on going separate ways.
The heartbroken Garcia took out a dagger and started stabbing his abdomen to the shock of his live-in partner.
Garcia also stepped on the accelerator and the vehicle hit an electrical post at the corner of Stella Mariz and Sta. Catalina streets in Barangay Kapitolyo.
Bystanders rushed Garcia and Salud to the hospital.
Responding policemen recovered a bloodied 10-inch dagger inside the vehicle.
According to police, Garcia admitted inflicting wounds on himself. Salud corroborated his statement, but stressed she would not file charges against Garcia. Non Alquitran
