Man lands in jail for throwing garbage

A 54-year-old technician from Caloocan City was hauled off to jail by operatives of the Quezon City governments Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department (EPWMD) over the weekend for illegally dumping garbage at the center island of A. Bonifacio Road near Tagaytay St., in Barangay N.S. Amoranto in Q
Charged for violating PD 825 was Reynaldo Bacani, married and a resident of Caloocan City. He was positively identified by Johnny Machate and Arsenio Gomez, both EPWMD operatives, who were then assigned to oversee illegal dumping activities along the vicinity of A. Bonifacio Road and Tagaytay St. last July 31.
Investigation disclosed that Bacani was arrested at about 1:30 p.m. in the act of dumping one plastic bag full of garbage while on board a Yamaha 125 cc motorcycle bearing license plate TD 5635.
It was reported that a brief chase ensued between Bacani and the apprehending environmental police as the former resisted arrest.
Superintendent Elmo San Diego, chief of the QC Hall Complex Police Office (CHCPO), led city police in filing the complaint against Bacani before the Quezon City Prosecutors Office.
City Prosecutor Ferdinand Tamaca has recommended a bail of P2,000 for Bacanis provisional liberty.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. described the arrest of Bacani as an indication that the city government is implementing a "no-nonsense campaign" in enforcing all environmental laws to ensure a cleaner environment for city residents.
"Sa Quezon City, gusto nating ipakita na seryoso tayo sa lahat ng ating mga kampanya sa kalinisan at hindi isang ningas-kugon lamang," the mayor said.
