A 29-year-old man tried to commit suicide after brutally killing his two children in Marikina City over the weekend.
Senior Superintendent Felipe Rojas Jr., Marikina police chief, said the suspect, Alejandro Alipio, tried to end his life after realizing what he had done to his two children Alejandro Jr., 6 and Alexandra, 4. His neighbors, however, stopped him.
Rojas said Alejandro Jr. and Alexandra, who sustained 11 and 10 stab wounds, respectively, died while being rushed to the hospital.
Police prober PO2 Glenn Aculana said that prior to the stabbing incident, Alipio and his wife, Luzviminda, had a fight over the latters work.
Alipio reportedly confronted his wife, right after she arrived home from work on Saturday. Luzviminda, who works as a housemaid in Caloocan City, just arrived home from work after a month. Alipio allegedly told his wife not to work anymore and threatened to kill their two young children. When Luzviminda ignored his threat, Alipio grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed their two children who were playing in the sala.
Luzviminda shouted for help and neighbors rushed inside the house but Alipio stabbed himself apparently to commit suicide.
After subduing Alipio, neighbors called the police and turned him over to their custody.
Rojas said he will subject Alipio to a drug test to determine whether he was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time of the commission of the crime. He also ordered the filing of double parricide charges against Alipio.
