Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Edgardo Manda has ordered the limiting of access to visitors inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 and Centennial Terminal 2 in order to decongest and properly secure these areas.
"The presence of individuals who are not involved in airport related operations in restricted and sanitized areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 compromises security which is not in keeping with the objective of providing safe, efficient and reliable airport facilities for international and domestic travel," Manda said in a memorandum.
Effective immediately, Manda limited up to check-in counter the access of "send-off parties" that accompany passengers to the departure areas of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
In the past, send-off parties could pass through the Customs and immigration areas, and even up to the Duty Free shop as well as the area just before entering the concourse of the international airport.
For "welcomers" of arriving passengers in the NAIA, Manda limited their access only up to the arrival lobby, VIP room and Customs area" in Terminal 1.
For welcome parties at Terminal 2, access has been limited only up to the "arrival restricted lobby." Sandy Araneta
