A 47-year-old Pasay City policeman was shot dead outside his house in Taguig by still unknown assailant last Thursday evening, police said yesterday.
Police Officer 3 Jose Reyes Jr., a native of Camarines Sur and resident of J.P. Rizal Street, Zone 5, Upper Bicutan in Taguig died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to case investigator PO2 Alain Sigua.
Reyes, who was assigned at Pasay City police Sub-station 1, was taken to the Rizal Medical Center (RMC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival at around 9:25 p.m., some 15 minutes after he was shot. Initial investigation showed the victim, who was in police uniform, just came home from work at 9:10 p.m. and parked his black Kawasaki HD3 motorcycle (TH3817) outside his house when two men approached him. One of the suspects pulled out a caliber .45 pistol and shot the officer.
Police later recovered six slugs from the crime scene.
Reyes wife Maria heard the gunshots and ran outside.
She said the suspects kept on shooting her husband even if he was already lying on the ground, face down. Before they walked away, they even pointed the gun at her.
"There were a lot of people who saw the suspects, but none of the witnesses could positive identify them. The suspects took Reyes service firearm before walking toward a street that led to the Maharlika Village," Police Officer 2 Ehron Balauat said.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
The family of the slain officer claimed he had no enemies.
Reyes had been with the force a long time, since the Philippine Constabulary days.
