Tinga eyes Taguig business district

-
Re-elected Mayor Freddie Tinga is eyeing the development of a central business district in the soon-to-be city of Taguig.

With the expansion of the Fort Bonifacio Global City to a 400-hectare business center, Tinga is confident that more investors would build establishments in the area which used to be a swamp.

The mayor has also noted that the population growth in the municipality, which is one of the fastest in Metro Manila, could be for its speedy development.

"But development should be balanced and not only focused on Fort Bonifacio," Tinga said during the Manila Overseas Press Club forum at the Ristorante la Dolce Fonatana in Greenhills, San Juan.

According to the mayor, they are currently dealing with very cooperative developers including Ayala Corp., the municipality’s top tax payer.

Tinga admitted he was hurt by corporations that insist Fort Bonifacio is part of Makati City in order to invite more clients and investors.

"Dati kasi kinakahiya nila ang Taguig," he said.

He said the boundary between Makati City and Taguig is on a creek at the Manila Polo Club area, which makes the entire Fort Bonifacio part of their municipality.

"With the proclamation of Taguig as a city, we will get P300 million and this will be significant for development projects," Tinga told The STAR.

Tinga said one of his priorities would be the lighting projects all over the new city, which would prevent street crimes. — Edu Punay
