Superintendent Jose Marcelo, city police chief, identified the victim as Joven Chan, 28, driver and a relative of the owners of NITS Janitorial Services in Marulas.
Chan succumbed to at least three gunshot wounds in the left arm and body and was declared dead on arrival at the Fatima Medical Center.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team leader Senior Inspector Carlos Mendez said the suspects fled toward an unknown direction, but failed in their attempt to get away with the cash, initial reports showed.
It was gathered that the rob-try occurred at around 12:40 p.m. when the victim’s maroon Mitsubishi Strada (WTH 441) was stuck in a traffic jam in front of a San Miguel Corp. office-warehouse along MacArthur Highway in Marulas.
Chan had just withdrawn the money from the Metrobank Samson Road branch beside the Caloocan City police headquarters.
Witnesses told probers that out of nowhere, the suspects on board a motorcycle sidled up to Chan’s vehicle.
One of the suspects broke the window glass on the driver’s side forcing the victim to alight.
Another suspect demanded the money and went on to grab the bag containing P127,820 cash in different denominations by Chan’s side.
Chan, however, resisted and was shot at close range. He was left bleeding in the middle of the highway by the suspects, who fled toward south with the loot.
Mendez said the bag containing the cash and the gun believed to be the fatal weapon were later found by authorities in a concrete trash bin in Potrero, Malabon.
