The police will not only be deployed in the vicinity of 790 schools, universities and colleges in Metro Manila during the opening of classes next week, but also in dormitories to secure foreign students against criminals, especially from kidnap-for-ransom syndicates.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director Gen. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., and Metro police chief Director Ricardo de Leon had conferred with officials of the Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) of Taiwan to assure them that security for foreign nationals enrolled in universities and colleges in Metro Manila was among their top priority.
The MECO officials updated Ebdane and De Leon of the case of a Taiwanese student who fell victim to criminals.
De Leon said security measures include deployment of 1,433 policemen, 240 mobile patrols and 107 motorcycle cops from the five police districts for the opening of classes. Non Alquitran
