2 fake NBI agents nabbed

Two men posing as agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in an attempt to extort money from a Japanese national, were arrested the other day by legitimate bureau men during an entrapment operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Lawyer Leopoldo Leuterio, head of the NBI-NAIA, identified the suspects as Julio Castelo, a former policeman assigned at the homicide section of the Western Police District and Danny Jimeno, a resident of Park Avenue in Pasay City.

The two bogus NBI agents were positively identified by victim Emmei Ogasawara, a Japanese businessman who owns the Talent Training Center located on Calderon street in Calumpang, Marikina City.

The two suspects were arrested inside the Window of the World restaurant located at the NAIA Terminal 1 building.

Ogasawara said the two tried to extort money from him in the amount of P10,000.

In their report, NBI agents Gary Ruiz, Dave de Guzman and Marvin Villardo said the two suspects tried to collect money from Ogasawara as payment from an alleged debt of the businessman’s friend, Yokohama Minehiro, who owed Jimeno cash amounting to P320,000.

Ogasawara said he cannot be forced to pay Jimeno since it was his friend who owed the suspect.

The two Japanese nationals were reportedly in a business together. Minehiro allegedly borrowed money from Jimeno to finance the business. Sandy Araneta
