Two men were caught stealing metal railings at the Ortigas flyover while two others were to be slapped for violating the anti-fencing law, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.
MMDA Deputy Chairman Cesar Lacuna identified the four suspects as Leo Rendal, 34 and Joey Casille, 15, both residents of Barangay Rosario, Pasig City; and Nestor and Julie Narog, of Barangay Canlogan, Pasig City.
Lacuna said the 24-hour surveillance being conducted by joint traffic enforcers of the MMDA and officials of Barangay Ugong in Pasig City paid off when they caught Rendal and Casille in the act of removing the flyovers metal railings.
Lacuna said they would file theft charges against the two while the Narag couple faces sanctions for violating the anti-fencing law.
The team led by Barangay Ugong Captain Arnie Legaspi spotted Rendal and Casille holding a wrench and unscrewing the bolts of the railings. Found in their possession were eight adaptors or connectors and two railings.
Lacuna said there could have been other railings but the suspects may have already disposed them.
During investigation, the two suspects revealed that they sell the items to Nestors Junkshop owned by the Narag family.
The MMDA appealed to the public yesterday to report to their office if they have knowledge of other people involved in similar illegal activities.
