Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide was filed against a 30-year-old security guard after the armored van he was driving allegedly ran over a 57-year-old pedestrian in Makati City last Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Police Officer 1 Miguel Descalzo, traffic investigator, said Ernesto Gabel, a messenger of Asiasec Equities Inc., of 02166 Pildera I, Block II, MIA Road, Pasay City was instantly killed in the accident.
Descalzo said charges were filed before the Makati City Prosecutors Office against Joefrey Ancehta, 30, a resident of Pasay City.
The initial investigation showed the incident happened at around 3:15 p.m. as Ancheta was driving a Mitsubishi armored van (TEK-829).
He had just made a left turn on Carlos Palanca street from De la Rosa street in Makati City just as Gabel was crossing, coming from the left side.
"The driver did not even know he had hit someone. It was only when another pedestrian stood in front of the vehicle and signaled him to stop did he realize that something was wrong," Descalzo said.
Gabel fell to the ground after being hit by the front left portion of the van. He was then run over by the vehicles left rear tires. Evelyn Macairan
