GMA gets showering of support in QC

President Arroyo got an early birthday gift yesterday in Quezon City when re-electionist Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., on behalf of his political team, expressed full support for her bid to win a full six-year term in office in the coming May 10 elections.

Belmonte, assisted by re-electionist Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista and other local candidates in Quezon City welcomed her at city hall along with his constituents showed their support for the President, her runningmate Sen. Noli de Castro and the K-4 senatorial candidates.

The President was visibly touched by a pledge of commitment and certicicate of recognition from members of various tricycle operators and drivers associations under the "Todo Arangkada, Kasangga ni Gloria." who trooped to the Risen Garden at the city hall compound to show their support. Some 15,000 tricycles were mobilized at city hall. Children of drivers sang "happy birthday" and gave her a cake.

In return, she assured leaders of TODAs some P1 million worth of livelihood programs. The President said she wants to put up a Tindahan sa Terminal in every TODA terminal fo them to avail of low priced commodities.

President Arroyo asked Quezon City residents to vote back into office the tandem of Belmonte and Bautista.

From there, Mrs. Arroyo and her K-4 national and local ticket proceeded to the Quezon Memorial Circle for the Grand Family Day festivities.

She took the occasion to also ask for the people’s backing of the entire 12-man senatorial ticket of K-4, led by former Trade and Industry Secretary Mar Roxas.

"Kung tayo ay tutuloy sa ating pagkakaisa at ibabalik ninyo ako sa panguluhan ngayong Mayo at gagawin yung katulong ko sa mga makamasang program ni Noli De Castro… kung tutulungan nyo ako maging Pangulo muli kasama ang ating kasamahan sa K-4, mabawasan ang out of school youth ay gagawa tayo ng program na education for all," the President announced.

Mrs. Arroyo promised to bear the details of this new government program on Easter Sunday, or on the eve of her 57th birthday.

The President also raised the arms of Berna Romulo-Puyat, K-4’s official candidate for the first congressional district of Quezon City and daughter of Executive Secretary Alberto Romulo.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. joined barangay officials during the start of district eliminations for the 2004 Mutya ng Quezon City beauty pageant held at the covered courts of Barangay Quirino A in District 3 the other night.

The pageant, which was launched at the Amoranto multi-purpose hall last March 9 will give emphasis on the active participation of the youth in different programs and projects of the city government.

"The Mutya ng Quezon City will showcase the potential and degree of competitiveness of the candidates, epitomizing the attributes of what a model Quezon City youth should be," Belmonte said.

The coronation night is set for April 24 at the Liwasang Aurora at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. – Perseus Echeminada
