Mel Aguilar, wife of Mayor Vergel Aguilar, has challenged new graduates to be self-reliant on the way to becoming partners of the citys continuing growth to progress.
In her graduation message to a new batch of graduates, she said new professionals should not always depend on the government or businessmen to provide them employment.
Aguilar, who is seeking the mayoralty seat in the city, said the success of a person does not rely on anyone else but himself, with the determination to realize and reach his goals.
She cited the youths for their resourcefulness and creativity in coming out with workable new ideas for livelihood, what with available avenues abound.
Aguilar cited to the policy of her husband to encourage the youth to be independent and creative partners in nation building.
The city has been providing free seminars and lectures on entrepreneurship and livelihood resources to help residents to be self-sufficient and financially independent.
At the same time, Mrs. Aguilar encouraged elementary and high school graduates to persevere in seeking for higher education being provided to them for free by the city government.
She pointed out that there is no reason for parents not to send their children to school due to financial reason since the city has been providing school materials, textbooks, and facilities.
There are at least 65 modern day-care centers, 20 modern public school-buildings comparable to private schools where all pre-school age kids are given free education, with school supplies. At present, there are 20 modern high school buildings in addition to the existing ones.
