QC scholar tops IT school in US

A consistent honor student from Quezon City will be conferred with the "highest distinction" for his outstanding scholastic record in the research for his masteral degree in information system management at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Don Ryan Ortiz, from Sta. Monica, Jordan Plains in Novaliches, earned the recognition for his research in mobile date services over third generation wireless networks.

The project was sponsored by Convergys, a global leader in customer care and integrated billing services. The project involves the creation of a portable J2ME client program that would support mobile transaction and wireless marketing.

Ortiz, who is a recipient of the W.W. Cooper Scholarship for Academic Achievement, will also be honored during the commencement exercises on May 15 for his outstanding scholastic performance garnering a perfect grade point average (GPA) on the way to earning a master’s degree in information systems management.

This program is under Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science, Software Engineering Institute and the H. John Heinz 111 School of Public Policy and Management.

Carnegie Mellon ranks among the top universities in the US according to the US News and World Report Magazine and its recognized as the highest institution for information systems, artificial intelligence and computer science.

Ortiz, a consistent honor student at the Ateneo De Manila University in Loyola Heights, Quezon City is the son of Noemi Francisco and Antonio Ortiz, executive director and chief executive officer of the National Livelihood Support Fund.Perseus Echeminada
