Fire razes 50 homes

-
A fireman was hurt while some 100 families were left homeless after a fire destroyed some 50 houses and a community market at a squatter’s colony in Novaliches, Quezon City yesterday morning.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Sarge Biscocho identified the victim as Fire Officer 3 Rogelio del Rosario, who suffered second degree burns in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Biscocho said Del Rosario was hit by debris while trying to contain the blaze on A-19 Sauyo Road, Bagbag.

Initial investigation disclosed that the fire broke out at around 9:46 a.m. The fire immediately spread since most of the structures were made of wood and light construction materials.

A fire-out was declared at around 11:48 a.m.

Arson investigators are still conducting a probe to determine the origin of the fire. – Katherine Adraneda
