Water conservation teams mobilized

-
Measures to prevent a possible water crisis has been undertaken in Las Piñas City as Mayor Vergel Aguilar convened a composite group to strictly implement the water conservation guidelines.

Aguilar met with the heads and officials of the city health department, engineering, barangays, social work, local Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other concerned agencies before drafting a plan on how to effectively implement the water-saving program in the city.

"We have to put in our share in the common effort to avert a possible water shortage, starting off with our respective areas by way of saving and recycling," Aguilar told officials.

Support of barangay officials was solicited to disseminate information on water-conservation steps, while other city hall officials concerned were instructed to implement their respective measures.

The Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipinas (KALIPI), which is a 40,000-strong women’s group organized by Mel Aguilar, wife of the mayor, is also being mobilized for the water conservation campaign.

The mayor enjoined everyone to observe the practical water saving measures issued by the DENR, whose flyers have been distributed in all of the city’s 20 barangays.

Water-saving tips include repair or replacement of leaking pipes and reporting of illegal water connections, use of recycled water in washing cars and adoption of practical household cleaning methods.

He also called on all homeowners’ associations to mobilize their respective members in the implementation of water conservation drive, saying their cooperation is key in the city’s effort to help avert a water crisis.

At the same time, he reminded the city health department to conduct a regular sanitary inspection of all private water suppliers in the city to ensure that the water is safe to prevent any water-borne diseases.

Sources of water in the city come from MWSS and private water suppliers while the rest are from public deep wells, particularly in the depressed areas.
