A rookie mistake?
February 5, 2004 | 12:00am
A rookie cop accidentally shot himself with his own service firearm while responding to a call for assistance at the Northern Police District Office (NPDO) yesterday in Caloocan City.
PO1 Robelo Rabara, detailed with the District Mobile Force (DMF) at the NPDO, Kaunlaran Village, Caloocan City was taken to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon for treatment of a thigh wound.
Records showed the incident happened at around 9 a.m. yesterday inside the NPDO headquarters. Rabara was allegedly fixing himself when a call for assistance came from his colleagues at the DMF. In his haste, the cop reportedly miscalculated in putting back his sidearm back to its holster, at the same time forgetting to put back the guns safety lever back to its position.
The miscue literally fired back at him with the bullet hitting him in his right thigh that sent him crumpling to the floor. He was taken by his colleagues to the nearest hospital where he is now confined. Jerry Botial
