Valenzuelas driver, PO1 Wayne Anota, and PO1 Christopher Orig of the District Intelligence and Investigation Division of the EPD sustained multiple head injuries. Both officers died while being rushed to the nearby St. Therese Hospital.
Anota and Orig were conducting surveillance operation against a criminal syndicate when the incident occurred at 3 a.m. yesterday, Valenzuela told The STAR.
Initial investigation showed that the two victims were traveling at high speed on board a yellow Honda Civic with license plates TMA147 when the car hit a bump along C. Raymundo street in Barangay Maybunga.
Orig, who was driving, lost control of the wheel, sending the vehicle to the opposite lane before ramming the gate of CA Construction Corp. on Geronimo street.
The impact caused their heads to hit the cars windshield.
Bystanders rushed them to the hospital, but they were declared dead on arrival by attending doctors.
Reports reaching Valenzuela showed that the officers were not wearing seat belts.
The car was owned by a woman from Las Piñas City.
Police could not say why the officers were using the vehicle. Anota and Orig had been in police service for five years and three years, respectively.
Valenzuela promised to provide assistance to the families of the officers since they were killed in the line of duty.
