A security guard of the University of the Philippines was killed while his three companions were arrested last night following a shootout with members of the Central Police District-Criminal Investigation Unit (CPD-CIU) at the Arboretum of the state campus along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Reports reaching the CPD headquarters in Camp Karingal revealed that cops arrived at the scene following complaints of indiscriminate firing in the area.
In an interview, CPD director Chief Superintendent Napoleon Castro told The Star that at 7 p.m., a call was received by police informing them that several security guards, who were allegedly drunk, were firing their guns at the Arboretum.
Elements of the CPD-CIU responded to the scene and tried to pacify the suspects. But the guards fired at the policemen who were forced to retaliate. One of the suspects was hit.
The names of the suspects, including the fatality, were not available, as of press time. Katherine Adraneda
