4 Waray-Waray gang members nabbed

Four alleged members of the notorious Waray-Waray group, including a former Army man believed involved in kidnapping-for-ransom activities and all forms of robbery.

Western Police District (WPD) director Chief Superintendent Pedro Bulaong said the suspects were identified as Renato Lego, 37, an ex-Army man of Jaro, Leyte; Roselo Morpe, 24, of 8289 Anonas St., Sta. Ana, Manila; Gaudioso Bolleser, 57, and her daughter Nancy from Bagumbong, Novaliches.

In his report to Bulaong, Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca, chief of the WPD-Station 7, said the suspects had direct participation in the kidnapping of Borromeo Ang, Tocia Macatangay, Vincent Ty, Johnny Corpuz, Wilbert Uy and Edwin Tan.

Llorca said the last kidnap victim was 63-year old Antonio Tanchay of Pasay City last Dec. 2. Tanchay was abducted in front of Baron Agriculture and Industrial Corp. on Taft Avenue, Pasay City.

The kidnappers got P2.3 million cash and assorted jewelry in ransom from relatives of Tanchay, who was released on Dec. 4 in Quezon City.

When police received the information about the Tanchay kidnapping, Llorca and his men conducted a series of follow up operations.

Morpe was arrested in his house in Anonas street, Sta. Mesa shortly after he had just alighted from a taxi. During interrogation, Morpe revealed the hideouts of his cohorts.

Police said Morpe’s group is also behind the kidnapping of Mark Dagdag, Orlando Naga and Engineer Jose Naga before Christmas Day and Coca-Cola executive Betti Chua Sy last Nov. 7. — Cecille Suerte Felipe
