Mathay files bid

-
Former Quezon City Mayor Mel Mathay Jr. filed yesterday his certificate of candidacy (COC) for city mayor at the Commission on Elections office in Quezon City.

Mathay, who is running under the opposition Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, was accompanied by supporters wearing red T-shirts. Also filing his COC was vice mayoralty bet Fernando "Dingdong" Avanzado.

The congressional line-up of Mathay includes Bingbong Crisologo, for the first district, his son Chuck Mathay who is seeking re-election for the second district, Mike Planas for third district and Bong Suntay in the fourth district.

They will face an all woman-team from the administration party, namely: Berna Romulo Puyat, Mary Ann Susano, and re-electionists Maite Defensor and Nanette Castelo Daza.

Mathay who served three consecutive terms as mayor of Quezon City ran for Congress in the 2000 elections, but lost to neophyte candidate Nanette Castelo Daza in the fourth district of the city.

In the same election, Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. won against movie actor Rudy Fernandez. – Perseus Echeminada
