Dad nearly wipes out family in Pasig

Drunk and jealous with rage, a jobless man hacked and severely wounded his wife and daughter before killing himself and his youngest son by setting their house on fire in Pasig City last Monday night.

The charred bodies of Rudy Gitana, 46, and his son, Wilmour, 6, were recovered by responding firemen among the debris of their razed home at 727 Abocado street, Teacher’s Village, Lupang Pari, Barangay San Miguel.

Gitana’s wife, Rosie, 45, and daughter, Lenny Lyn, 20, sustained multiple hack wounds in the head and body. They are now fighting for their lives at the Pasig City General hospital.

Initial investigation showed that a drunk Gitana arrived home at about 3:30 p.m. last Monday.

A neighbor, Ronnie Kintoy, said Gitana confronted his wife who was just about to leave the house. He asked her where she was going.

Gitana became angry when his wife answered that he had no business asking him such a question, Kintoy told police probers.

The husband then accused his wife of having a relationship with another man, triggering a heated argument.

At the height of the quarrel, Gitana rushed inside, grabbed a bolo and hacked Rosie. The daughter tried to intervene but she, too, was hacked by Gitana.

Despite their wounds, Rosie and Lenny Lyn ran outside he house and sought the help of neighbors, who rushed them to the hospital.

Upon seeing the approaching neighbors, Gitana locked the door and grabbed Wilmour who was playing inside the house. unmindful of the tragedy that befell his family.

Neighbors said they stood helpless as Gitana also hacked the boy and set their house on fire. The flames quickly spread to nearby six other houses made of light materials.

Responding firemen declared the fire under control at 4:45 p.m. and recovered the two bodies beyond recognition at one corner of their house.

Affected families were evacuated to the barangay hall building. – Non Alquitran
