CIDG nabs Tsinoy briber

-
A Filipino-Chinese man was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) yesterday after he tried to bail out three of his Chinese friends by allegedly bribing a police officer who arrested them.

The three were earlier nabbed during a raid for selling fake and reconditioned cellular phone units in Pasay City last Tuesday.

CIDG director Chief Superintendent Arturo Lomibao has ordered the investigation and proper filing of possible bribe charges against Cristino Sing Yee, 48, and temporary resident of 283 Ligtasan, Tarlac City.

Yee tried to bribe CIDG agents for the release of three Chinese nationals arrested at the Doña Isabel Building in Pasay City for violation of the trade infringement and copyright law. They allegedly assembled fake Nokia mobile phone units, said Superintendent Gilbert Sosa, head of the CIDG Anti-Transnational Crime Division.

Sosa said Yee offered cash amounting P985,000 to SPO3 Rodrigo Aguilar, a member of the raiding team, at the parking area located at the right wing of the CIDG headquarters.

Aguilar did not accept the money and informed Sosa of the attempt.

Sosa wasted no time in setting up an entrapment for Yee. The suspect was arrested in the presence of PO3 Henry Castroverde after having been informed of his constitutional rights. – Christina Mendez
