Aguilar wins Dangal award

The National Consumer Affairs Foundation and the Rizal Day National Celebration Committee has conferred the 2003 Dangal ng Bayan Award for Public Service to Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel "Nene" Aguilar for his outstanding performance as a public servant.

Aguilar will receive the award on Dec. 30 at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The Dangal ng Bayan Award for Public Service is given to outstanding public servants who have introduced innovative approach to fasttracking the provision of basic social services to the general public, especially the underprivileged.

Now on its 20th year, the National Consumer Affairs Foundation has also recognized Aguilar’s active efforts in promoting the interests of the youth in the city.

In particular, the city government has provided schools for elementary and secondary levels, benefiting the children and students down to the barangay level.

He likewise provided prep schools to young children in line with the government’s effort to provide basic education aimed at uplifting the living conditions of the city’s residents in the future.

Aguilar has also introduced measures at city hall to accommodate and facilitate the immediate provision of basic services to the transacting public.

Despite the city’s limited resources, Aguilar has provided health care services for free to qualified beneficiaries.

In addition, he has likewise assisted thousands of residents looking for livelihood as well as facilitated the provision of income-generating projects especially for women and the youth.
