Police have in their custody two suspected car thieves who were caught in the act of dismantling body parts of a vehicle they allegedly stole in Mandaluyong City.
The suspects, Marciano de la Roca, alias Marcial, 40, and Nelson Anyayahan, 36, surrendered peacefully when cornered by men of Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, Mandaluyong City police chief.
De la Roca and Anyayahan were dismantling a green 1992 Jitney (DJY-673) in Barangay Addition Hills when arrested Wednesday by local policemen from the anti-carnapping unit.
Velasquez said verification showed that the vehicle was registered under the name of couple Salvador and Asela Barcelon, of 219 Block 35, Welfareville Compound.
A follow-up operation at the parking area of the Botanical Garden located at Martinez Highway yielded other parts of the stolen vehicle, Velasquez said.
During tactical interrogation, the two suspects named their accomplices but Velasquez refused to reveal their identities so as not to jeopardize ongoing follow-up operations.
De la Roca and Anyayahan are currently detained at the CIU jail. Police filed carnapping charges against them yesterday before the city prosecutors office. Non Alquitran
