A childless couple was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for the kidnapping of a 10-month-old baby girl in Nueva Ecija last month.
CIDG director Chief Superintendent Arturo Lomibao commended his men for the arrest of Elaine Perias alias Lalaine Caparas and her live-in partner Dennis Caparas is Barangay Cupang, Balanga, Bataan.
The victim Catherine Guila Jr. was reunited yesterday with her mother at the CIDG headquarters at Camp Crame.
The mother Catherine Villon Guila said the couple initially befriended her by taking care of the baby whenever she was busy with chores.
It was on Nov. 28 when she was suffering from flu when the couple took advantage of her trust and took the baby from her house in Nueva Ecija.
After days of searching, the girls family traced her in Bataan at the house of the Perias.
On Dec. 4, the family sought assistance of the CIDG, which conducted follow-up operations.
Prior to the arrest, the suspects demanded P500 from the mother in exchange for returning the girl. They said it would be payment for the expenses they incurred while the baby was in their custody. Christina Mendez
