Off-duty cop shoots Caloocan holdup suspect

An off-duty Maritime cop shot dead one of the three suspected holdup men he tried to apprehend for carrying a gun before midnight on Saturday in Caloocan City.
Senior Police Officer 2 Alberto Dumlao, assigned at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Group at Pier 8 in North Harbor, voluntarily surrendered to the police after the incident with his service pistol, a caliber. 45.
Reports said that at around 11:45 p.m., one Renato Sibugon, Dumlaos neighbor in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City North, sought the policemans help regarding the presence of three unidentified armed men roaming aimlessly in their area.
When Dumlao confronted the suspected robbers, they reportedly tried to put up a fight, prompting Dumlao to fire at them five times.
Two of the men scampered to different directions and made good their escape while their companion, identified later as Nolito Aniel, 23, also a resident of the area, was hit.
Aniel died while being treated at the nearby J. Rodriguez Hospital in Tala due to two gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the crime scene were a bolo scabbard and a homemade 12-gauge shotgun loaded with one bullet.
