Ex-PBA cager caught with his pants down?

- Evelyn Macairan -
A 26-year-old businessman filed a complaint yesterday against former basketball superstar Paul Alvarez after he was allegedly caught naked with the former’s wife in the bedroom of the couple’s house in Makati City.

Jorge Alfredo Lopez III, owner of the Mustang Bar and Restaurant and resident of 28 Homonhon street, Barangay Magallanes, Makati City filed a complaint before the Makati City Women and Children’s Concern Unit at around 10 a.m.

Lopez, a nephew of former Manila Mayor Mel Lopez, filed the complaint against Alvarez and his wife of five years, Sarah Jane Devendorf-Lopez, an American citizen.

The complainant, who has plans to enter politics and run for councilor in the fourth district of Manila in next year’s polls, told Police Officer 1 Evangelista Babor that after attending a meeting with his moderators in Manila yesterday, he went home at around 4:30 a.m. He was accompanied by his friends Ernest Gerard Tagle and Bernard Robles.

When the group reached the house, they saw a parked silver Honda CRV (XKY-288), allegedly belonging to Alvarez.

In a separate statement, Robles, 29, of BF Homes, Parañaque City said his friend asked him to go to the bedroom on the second floor. "Pare, problema. Check on my wife," he quoted.

When the door was opened, they saw the wife and Alvarez, naked on the bed in a tight embrace.

The wife rushed to the door and pushed the trio outside of the bedroom, then locked the door.

Lopez knocked on the door several times, and when she finally opened it, she was holding a 12-inch kitchen knife. She allegedly attacked the husband, who managed to duck.

Robles, however, was wounded on the left arm.

When the husband saw that his two children Alyssa, 4 and Brando 3, were also on the second floor witnessing the commotion, he decided to get out of the house, away from the children.

Village security personnel and a mobile from a nearby police sub-station later arrived at the house.

She allegedly threatened to call her friends to have her husband and his companions killed. The wife shouted that she would bring the children to the US.

Before leaving the house, she even shouted incentives at the police officers, the husband said.

"We were outside the house and she was hysterical. I was very worried because she and Alvarez took the kids with them, he said.

The duo boarded a Ford Expedition (CPD-481) and left Alvarez’s car, the husband said.

In their haste to leave, they hit an L-300 van belonging to the village security and almost ran over a standing policeman, Lopez claimed.

For the last three months, the husband had been hearing rumors about an affair between his wife and Alvarez, "but I trusted her."

"I never really doubted her until today," he said. "I was introduced to Alvarez about a month ago by a common friend. All I want right now is to have my kids back and have our marriage annulled."

Lopez has temporarily transferred to his grandparents’ house on Times street in Quezon City.

Police said formal charges have yet to be filed against Alvarez and Lopez’s wife.

Meanwhile, the agent of Alvarez denied the cager was with Lopez’s wife, saying he was in Quiapo at the time of the incident.

In an interview over dzMM radio, Danny Espiritu admitted that Alvarez was with Lopez’s wife and a certain Bong Aragon in Malate, Manila before the cager asked Aragon to bring the complainant’s wife home to Makati City using his CRV. Alvarez reportedly then went to visit his friend, a certain Sherwin, in Quiapo, Manila. — with Ann Corvera
